This is an Encaustic Collagraph Printmaking workshop that takes place at Piramidal Gráfica — a paradise of an art compound just up the hill from from where we will be lodging at Alma del Sol. The studio has two large presses and ample workspace for up to 8 participants. This professional printmaking facility is well suited to serve all the creative needs of workshop attendees.

This five-day workshop will cover the various steps of the Encaustic Collagraph technique that I pioneered. You will learn the basic rudiments of encaustic using the common incising and heated tools of the medium along with embossing and exploiting texture. Daily demonstrations will focus on applying the wax and the various encaustic techniques that I married with collagraph printmaking. You will also learn about the vast world of printmaking such as paper registration, inks, color mixing, dry point etching, relief, intaglio, mark making, wiping and monotype vs. monoprint.

Immerse yourself in the vibrant colour and culture, celebrate The Day of the Dead festival, and create art with local artist Hugo Anaya.

Immerse yourself in a seven day printmaking and travel experience in the heart of Guanajuato, Mexico. An enjoyable and challenging workshop, surrounded a bountiful cactus garden and light. After a hard day in the studio, enjoy Hugo's famous margaritas at Alma del Sol's B&B terrace surrounded by mountains, Spanish Colonial architecture, and music funneling up from the streets. Walk to a variety of nearby traditional Mexican and International culinary delights. You'll leave Guanajuato with a folder full of prints, memories, and lasting friendships from around the world.

Join this 5-day monotype printing workshop using many transparent layers of colors to give life to an image. Let’s tell a story with images created by overlapping multiple thin layers of color ink. Good for both beginners and advanced students.

The studio is grand, located in a 17th century silver processing plant, flooded with light and space, super high ceilings surrounded by beautiful gardens with historic tales all around, inspiring and relaxing at the same time.

We have two large Rail Trail presses and printing starts almost as soon as we enter the studio.

Piramidal Gráfica is a short walk from Alma del Sol bed and breakfast where we serve a delicious and substantial breakfast. After a few hours of hard work we provide a gourmet lunch served in the lush garden. A delicious welcome gathering and a group farewell dinner is included.

The cost of this workshop is $980 USD and includes all printmaking supplies except for paper, accommodations double occupancy, breakfasts, and lunches. Does not include airfare or transfers to and from airport, although we can help you secure a driver from the airport to our lodgings.
